Description Estate Inventory (1851):
« Un bracelet forme de chaîne, en or, ayant pour pendant un cœur pour enfermer des cheveux, dans l’intérieur est gravé 'donné par le Roi 1er Mai 1849'. »

A firm silver bracelet is surrounded by fine garlands of granules, which move along with the wearer and amuse the eye. Jewellery piece N° 37 was the last gem Leopold bestowed to his Louise, since a year later she passed away. A beautiful, final act of love, so it seems. However, a multitude of pearls inside the new bracelet states a critical concern, as if these pearls want to rectify an unpleasant part of Louise’s love life. At the time, Leopold held Louise close to his heart. Nonetheless, she has never been more than his kind companion, since Leopold’s true lover eventually became the young Arcadie Claret. Strikingly, at the very moment Leopold gave the bracelet to Louise, his mistress was carrying his first illegitimate son. Then, what was this gift truly meant to do? Hush Louise with its silent splendour? Relieve Leopold of his guilt? Whether Leopold ever apologised, is not known. Therefore, this renewed piece muses about a reality in which he did show remorse, as the engraving of ‘donné par le Roi’, was altered to the message ‘LE ROI S’EXCUSE’.
