N° 199

Bracelet set, 2023

White marble, mother of pearl, sterling silver

Photography: Simon Debbaut-L'Ecluse

Description Estate Inventory (1851):

An alliance of firm, royal marble and shimmering mother of pearl, embraces both wrists. From there, steady chains drift off to two medallions, which materialise the memory of the mother and the father – in Louise’s case, of Marie-Amélie and Louis-Philippe. Both are a part of our fundamental, early memories, the kind of memories that shape the ways we think, sense and act; the ways we define ourselves. These bracelets intend to adorn the wearer with his or her own history and explore how one can never fully move away from those early experiences. We carry the people and the places that have constituted us, willingly or not, consciously or not, ever with us. In long-lasting times of distress, this unwavering, umbilical connection might even serve as an escape route to solace. The mind will ever find a way to muse, to drift off. To move towards what was once experienced as familiar and secure. To lose itself in sentiments of long-ing.
